Why was publishing this book important to you?
Publishing Travel Bravely comes from my desire to bring a message of hope to someone out there. Some experiences in life drive your passion towards particular goals. The desire to create a better understanding of the struggle of a Sickle Cell Warrior, the desire to inspire and help alleviate and ultimately put an end to the trauma that comes with living with sickle cell disease has been the driving force for my Sickle Cell Advocacy which in turn led me to the publication of this book. Sickle Cell Disease is one of life's unpleasant experiences and when going through any difficult situation, it's important to understand that there could be pain, there could be disappointments but through it all, giving up isn't an option. Given my personal experience watching someone close to my heart go through a difficult time fighting for his life and how he bravely traveled this journey with the strength of a warrior ignited that passion to encourage others through my book to continue the fight with perseverance, courage, determination and most importantly Prayer.

What, if anything, did you feel like was lacking in other books in your genre?
Travel Bravely is one of the few books that have been published relating to Sickle Cell Disease and it not only relates the experiences with Sickle Cell but in addition, it delves into cultural beliefs and values, it offers an insight into what treatment for Sickle Cell could be like and the hopes and possibilities. It offers inspiration tied up with suspense and the call to duty. Travel Bravely is indeed one of a kind.

What's something you learned about yourself through writing?
I have always had a flair for writing. I started my Inspirational blog Page www.myafriamericanworld.com a few years back to share motivational messages. Through my blog and from writing Travel Bravely, I have learned that passion drives determination and the passion that I have to tell our story was what gave me the willpower and determination to keep writing. Telling my son's story to inspire others gave me a sense of purpose which was a driving force for me. I'm also able to pour out my emotions better by putting pen on paper to share personal experiences.

What do you hope readers walk away thinking after they’ve read your book?
I want my readers to walk away thinking about the voice of hope that says "Don't Give Up". I want my readers to understand that life is a journey and regardless of how difficult or frustrating the situation is, it is possible to go through it bravely with the strength of a warrior. I want my readers to have expatiated their knowledge regarding Sickle Cell Disease and the pain that those living with it endure. I want them to understand the gravity and impact of this disease and I would like someone, anyone in a position to help start to think about ways to support in order to help put an end to the pain of those living with Sickle Cell.

What are some books you’ve read recently that have inspired you?
Two books that stood out the most and truly inspired me that I have read recently would be "I am Malala" by Malala Yousafzai and "Becoming" by Michele Obama. These are remarkable Memoirs that told a story of bravery and determination.

What else would you like to include in your author feature article?
My desire is to help drive for better support for the Sickle Cell Community. With continuous creation of awareness and education; with more voices speaking up for improved healthcare and equity; I believe that we can work together to find a better cure and ultimately put an end to the sickle cell cycle.
